Serenella SPERENZA
Worldwide Applications Engineers Manager - MEMC

- "
The maximum benefit is achieved when the student can make the
connection between his technical knowledge and the external factors that
determine the field of application"
Serenella Speranza is graduated from Pisa University in Industrial
Chemistry with a thesis on the functionalization of polyolephines
with funcional groups via carbene activation. Her job consists in participating
to the early stages of the silicon substrate design for new applications
and technologies insuring that the right compromise be achieved between
product performance and cost.
She teach a session where the steps to produce an electronic grade silicon
wafer are covered, details are given about the impact of wafer parameters
on various device types and interaction between silicon features and device
processes are explored.
For her "The Master course provide to the students that were never
exposed to the industrial world a first contact with representatives from
the industry and allows people who work in the industry to deepen their
knowledge in selected technical areas. The varied audience background
is a resource that allows a more lively interaction and the sharing of
different experiences"
"This is certainly an opportunity not to miss and I would encourage
them to participate with questions addressed to better understand those
business aspects that are not part of a standard university program. This
specifically relates to cost considerations and strategic approaches".
"The students should have a solid technical background that allows
them to follow without much pain the technical theoretical sections and
should have an interest in acquiring a broader view of how the technical
aspects interact with business consideration. The maximum benefit is achieved
when the student can make the connection between his technical knowledge
and the external factors that determine the field of application".
